John Mayer is launching a foundation focused on advancing the health of veterans.

While Mayer is busy releasing new music and preparing for a summer tour, he is also spending time thinking about others and charitable projects. The ‘I Guess I Just Feel Like’ singer has already given over a decade of his time and dedication for this project.

Through this foundation, Mayer plans on improving the health of veterans through both scientific research and raising awareness through his platform.

The foundation, called The Heart and Armor Foundation, will be focused on veterans with PTSD as well as female veterans and their needs. Mayer has been working on the organization since 2012 by spending time with veterans, scientists and clinicians who specialize in this area of health.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Mayer said: “We have some really great data and … we want it to be working first so that a lot of the questions were answered before we brought things to people by way of awareness.”

This foundation is particularly important and close to home for Mayer as his father was a World War II veteran. He was inspired to start the Heart and Armor Foundation after he visited the Marine Corps Base Camp in North Carolina back in 2008.

The organization’s first event, “How War Changes Women, How Women Change War,” took place on March 1st and is available to be watched via Facebook.
